“I was born before computers, now they send me advice.” is a short record of junk mail during its early years. In 2016 over half of all emails were junk. Many came from overseas where English was a second language, many were created by computers attempting to bypass filters created to stop them reaching us. I found this evolving low budget language fascinating as it wrestled with attempts to generate meaning and pathos. I was also interested in preserving them for the effects they had on me at the time. How they pulled me even though they meant nothing.
